    The West Vigo High School Hall of Fame shall be established to honor West Vigo High School athletes and teams for their achievements at West Vigo High School. To honor those who brought pride to West Vigo through the athletic arena.

  • Selection Committee

    This committee will be responsible for choosing from those individuals who have been recommended/nominated through an application process. This committee will consist of three members of the HOF committee, four former/current coaches and two community members. It is recommended the committee consist of at least nine members, but may grow to as many as eleven if deemed necessary. A member of the HOF committee will act as chairperson for the HOF selection committee.

    A candidate for selection to the HOF as an athlete will not be considered until the student has been out of high school for fifteen years. At a minimum the student must have been a varsity athlete in his or her sport or sports. The committee will consider: awards/conference recognition, records established, championships, and individual statistics. The committee will also consider the athlete’s college career including recognition for achievements and awards obtained there. Professional achievements in athletics may also be considered when determining HOF status. It is also important the committee consider the athlete’s overall contribution to his or her sport both during High School and beyond and to weigh carefully both High School achievements and overall achievements as a measure of overall success in one’s sport.

    To be inducted into the HOF, teams must somehow have distinguished themselves above and beyond the normal standards. These may include: undefeated seasons, conference championships, sectional, regional and state championships and/or appearances. The HOF committee shall select no more than one team in any year, and may choose not to select any team.

    Coach:

    At this point, coaches are not up for selection. Every year will be up for review for the inclusion of coaches. If coaches are to be included in the nomination process, a candidate must have been a varsity coach at West Vigo High School for five years and be retired before they will be considered for entrance into the HOF. The committee will consider coaches overall records, Championships, and number of years service to the program. The committee may also consider any other contributions the coach has made to help develop and foster Athletics at West Vigo.

     

    Induction

    With the exception of the inaugural class, the class of inductees shall not number more than three a year. After selection to the HOF, the new members will be inducted on the first Saturday of each November at the HOF induction banquet. Each honoree will be presented a HOF plaque during the ceremony. A duplicate plaque will be placed on the HOF wall in the Jim Mann Green Dome.
